  3. 39th Annual Congress of SIOP held in Mumbai, India dated 31 October-1 November, 2007 was attended by Prof. Y. K. Sarin, Dr. Vivek Manchanda, Dr. Rupnayan Goswami and Dr. Nitin Pant. Prof. Y. K Sarin presented free paper titled “Teratomas in children- experience from a tertiary pediatric surgery center in India”.

  1. Prof. Y. K. Sarin was designated as visiting professor at Raja Muthaiah Medical College, Annamalai University, Annamalai Nagar for the period April 2006 to March 2007.
  2. Prof. Y. K. Sarin was patron to “Workshop on Paediatric Urodynamics” held at Department of Pediatric Surgery, PSG IMS&R, Coimbatore in capacity of Secretary-cum-treasurer of Pediatric Urology Chapter of IAPS.
  3. Prof. Y. K. Sarin chaired the session in “International Pediatric Urology Workshop (PEDURON)” held at LTMG Hospital, Sion, Mumbai on 9-11 March, 2007.

Sarin was part of the Consensus committee of 4 members that drafted a consensus guideline for the management of “Congenital Pouch Colon” in India on 12th March, 2007 at MAMC, New Delhi. ; others included Prof. V. Bhatnagar (AIIMS), Prof. Ashish Wakhlu (KGMU) and Prof Rajiv Chadha (LHMC).

  12. Prof. S. K. Aggarwal was invited as a guest speaker in “Annual Conference of MP Sate Chapter of IAPS” held in Bhopal on 25-26th August, 2007 and delivered three lectures on “Anorectal Malformations”, “Hypospadias” and “Strictures of Urethra”.
  13. Prof. S. K. Aggarwal was invited by Department of Pediatric Surgery, Bhopal to demonstrate the surgical technique of “Transpubic repair of urethral stricture” on 27 August, 2007 with successful result.

  21. Prof. Y. K. Sarin held the post of Chairperson Elect, Research Section of IAPS till October, 2007 following which he was elevated to Chairperson for a period of 1 year.
  22. Prof. Y. K. Sarin holds the post of Secretary-cum-treasurer, Pediatric Urology Chapter of IAPS for the period 2006-08.
  23. Prof. Y. K. Sarin holds the post of Executive member of PESI-IAPS (Minimal access surgery chapter of IAPS) for the period 2007-09.

Fellowship

Prof. Y. K. Sarin was awarded the prestigious Fellowship of National Academy of Medical Sciences (India) (FAMS-Pediatric Surgery) on 27 October, 2007 at Amritsar. Before him, there are only dozen Pediatric Surgeons from India who have been awarded FAMS including the previous Head of the Department Director Professor Dr. S. Talwar.

Representation on expert committees/ bodies
  1. Prof. Y.K. Sarin and Prof. S. K. Aggarwal was invited by CSIR as expert to interview candidates for Senior Research Officer positions in Paediatric Surgery.
  2. Prof. Y.K. Sarin was nominated by Govt. of NCT of Delhi as expert to interview candidates for Assistant Professor in Department of Paediatric Surgery in Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi.
  3. Prof. Y.K. Sarin was nominated by Medical Council of India as Inspector to visit Departments of Pediatric Surgery in Gandhi Medical College, Hyderabad, BJ Medical College and attached Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad, Medical College, Manipal.
  4. Prof. Y.K. Sarin and Dr. Shalini Sinha continue to be members of the Disability authentication committee of Lok Nayak Hospital, New Delhi.
  5. Prof. Y.K. Sarin continues as member of Post graduate Cell and skills laboratory of Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi.
  6. Prof. S. K. Aggarwal was invited as an expert for the selection of Asstt. Professors at Gandhi Medical College, Bhopal.

Health Services to the community
  1. Prof. Y. K. Sarin actively participated in “Free operative camp” at GB Pant Govt. Hospital, Port Blair, Andaman & Nicobar Islands under the banner COPS – IAPS (Community oriented Pediatric Surgery) in February 2007.
  2. Prof. Y. K. Sarin provided free OPD services to poor patients in Ujjain for NGO Chikitsa
    Sansar in October 2007.

Any other relevant academic information worth mentioning
  1. Prof. Y.K. Sarin continues to be on editorial boards of three reputed national journals, namely, Indian Pediatrics, Indian Journal of Pediatrics and Journal of Indian Association of Pediatric Surgeons, besides being reviewer to some more Journals including Indian Journal of Urology.
  2. Prof. S. K. Aggarwal advanced the laparoscopic surgery in the Department of Pediatric Surgery with over 70 laparoscopic procedures done in the year 2007. First laparoscopic pull-through procedure in Lok nayak Hospital was performed for Hirschsprung’s disease. He also performed laparoscopic hernia repair in a 47-day-old infant.
  3. Prof. S. K. Aggarwal performed ureteric and urethral reconstruction with appendix or ileum in 5 children in last few years.
  4. Dr. Simmi Ratan was invited as a reviewer for Indian Journal of Pediatrics and Indian Journal of Radiology and Imaging.
  5. Dr. Vivek Manchanda was awarded 2nd prize in the “Post-graduate quiz” at “33rd Annual Conference of Indian Association of Pediatric Surgeons” held in Jaipur, India dated 4-7 October 2007
