Training courses/ conferences/ workshops organized
  • The Dept of Microbiology actively participated in the” Fellowship in HIV Medicine” course conducted by MAMC.
    Dr. P.Bhalla and other faculty members delivered lectures and practical sessions were also arranged.
  • The Dept of Microbiology conducted a two days training programme for 30 laboratory technicians of Integrated HIV counseling and Testing Centres (DSACS) in November 2007
  • The Dept of Microbiology conducted a training programme for labortory technicians on “ Laboratory diagnosis and management of HIV infection” from 20-24th August, 2007 under the “ Fellowship in HIV Medcine” Programme
  • Department of Microbiology organized a CME Microbiology Update 2007 on “Molecular approaches in Clinical Microbiology” in February 2007.
  • Department of Microbiology organized a workshop for ART technicians on “CD4 good Laboratory Practices and Blood Collection” in September 2007.

Health Services to the community

  • HIV sentinel surveillance round 2007
  • The faculty members and technical staff have taken active part in the Pulse Polio Immunization Programme of Govt. of Delhi for the elimination of Poliomyelitis
  • The Department in addition to teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students and carrying out research also performs the total microbiological investigations for indoor and outdoor patients of the associated hospitals.
  • The faculty members and technical staff have assisted the health administration in the field of hospital and community infection control, HIV and STI awareness programmes of the State government and containment of Dengue, Tuberculosis

Imp Note:
HIV laboratory and Serology and STD laboratory participated in National External Quality Assessment Programmes in HIV Serology and CD4 testing, Syphilis serology and Gonococcal Antimicrobial Susceptibility Programme.


New Facility added (if any)
  • Real Time PCR was procured for quantitative detection of HIV and HCV
  • Setting up of Advanced Virology laboratory was initiated with additional grant of Rs 90 lakhs for procurement of equipments and reagents. Dr. A. Chakravarti was made Nodal Officer for this Laboratory
