Guru Nanak Eye Centre was conceived as the premier center of Government of Delhi to
provide most up-to-date treatment for the eye diseases. It is situated on the Maharaja Ranjit
Singh Marg and is being constructed in phases. In first phase OPD building was constructed
and commenced in 1976. In 1984 Indoor Patient Department was inaugurated. This provided
OPD facilities, casualty services and 150 beds. Currently the center is headed by Dr B Ghosh. At
present phase-III constructions are going on and are going to provide most modern operation
theatre facilities, special wards, day care centre and Lecture Theatres and Academic Block
including modern Library.
Since its inception GNEC has maintained steady and growth resulting into the best possible
Eye Care facilities.
This centre is running various special clinics, namely, Paediatric Ophthalmology,
Neuro-Ophthalmology, Contact Lens, Glaucoma, Trauma, Squint, Surgical and Medical Retina,
Keratoplasty and Ophthalmoplasty. This centre is now able to provide state of the art medical
facilities to the patients totally free of cost. This centre has separate pathology laboratory for
conducting various serological, biochemical tests.
Apart from providing the clinical services, all doctors are encouraged to keep abreast
with the latest developments in the clinical and the basic sciences.
Many papers were published
in recognized Indian and International Journals. This centre was chosen as a “Centre of
excellence” and was given the task of providing training to the trainers in the field of IOL
operations.
A multi centre study on the Glaucoma is also being coordinated by the Director of
the Centre. This centre is organizing eye donation camps, eye screening camps and exhibitions
to inform and increase awareness amongst the general population about the eye health care.
Delhi’s Motia Mukti Abhiyan is being coordinated and organized by the center and the hospital
contributed in more than 40% of the surgery supporting the various screening centre.

Latest Electro physiological machine for investigation like ERG,
EOG, VER and EMR at Neuro-ophthalmology wing.

Fundus Fluorescin Angiography.
- Nagel's
anomaloscope for finer evaluation of colour vision abnormalities
