IDENTIFYING AIRWAY OBSTRUCTION
|
A working knowledge of airway anatomy, quick identification of airway
obstruction to circumvent the potentially fatal complications.

HOW TO MAKE AIRWAY PATENT
Oro-/Naso-pharyngeal
airway; Suction
|
To be able to apply maneuvers & simple adjuncts to overcome the
airway obstruction e.g. Heimlich's maneuver.

HOW TO PROVIDE RESPIRATION
- Manual methods:
Mouth to Mouth /Adjunct(mask/airway)
- Resuscitator (Ambu)
- Adjuncts: LMA, ILMA, Combitube

To be able to apply maneuvers & simple devices to provide satisfactory
respiration once airway obstruction has been cleared.

BASICS OF LARYNGOSCOPY & INTUBATION
|
To ensure that the first laryngoscopy is the best attempt. To choose
the correct type of ETT, use the correct technique of introduction,
fixation and cuff inflation in order to minimize intubation related
morbidity.

O2 ENRICHMENT & AIRWAY CONTROL
|
Ways and means to maximize oxygen supply to the tissues during efforts
to open the airway and providing respiration, safely and without losing
focus of the top priorities
